We recently transcreated an in-depth feature for CUHK Business School titled “Going Global: The New Blue Ocean for Chinese Enterprises”. The article explores how mainland firms are entering a new phase of strategic globalisation while navigating structural disadvantages, including the “liability of foreignness” and heightened geopolitical sensitivities.

Chinese business and policy writing often relies on culturally specific shorthand that resonates immediately with domestic audiences but can confuse international readers. Terms such as 三來一補 (early processing trade models); 三中心一高地 (policy positioning frameworks); or 「輕模式」轉向「重模式」 (the shift from asset-light to asset-heavy strategies) carry dense, implicit meaning. When translated literally, they can create conceptual gaps that undermine the clarity and credibility of otherwise sophisticated analysis.

Our approach therefore goes beyond translation. We identify where international readers need context and build that scaffolding into the text. Rather than simply defining terms, we explain why they matter, how they function within the argument, and how they connect to broader global business themes. For this piece, that meant unpacking policy frameworks, contextualising strategic concepts, and recalibrating the language to sound natural, authoritative, and globally fluent.

The result is content that preserves the depth and nuance of the original while making it accessible, credible, and engaging for readers unfamiliar with Chinese business contexts. Most importantly, it helps global audiences more clearly understand China’s strategic thinking.

Very excited to share our latest transcreation work for Link’s Channel 823, which includes two feature stories close to our hearts. As butterfly enthusiasts, it was a pleasure to support and, hopefully, enhance these meaningful initiatives to provide urban sanctuaries for migrating butterflies as well as involve the community.
